DBDON and SAVIO (Slovakia) Forge Stronger Ties for Youth Empowerment

Mr. Jan Resutik, the Chairman of SAVIO, a Salesian NGO based in Slovakia, concluded a visit to Kenya from the 4th to 14th September 2024. SAVIO is a non-profit organization based on the Salesian style, creating space for solidarity with the poor and improving the lives of young people in underdeveloped countries.

Mr. Jan’s visit to Kenya began with a trip to Don Bosco Kakuma where SAVIO is funding the construction of the staff housing. In addition, SlovakAID funding has enabled the near-completion of an administration block at Don Bosco Kakuma. The Salesians of Don Bosco run 7 training centers in Kakuma, including the TVET institute in Kakuma town where the current construction is taking place, targeting the host community (the Turkana youth).

SAVIO also supports our Bosco Boys project which caters to Youth at Risk (YAR). On his return from Kakuma, Mr. Jan spent a few days at Bosco Boys, where he had previously served as a volunteer some years back.

His itinerary also included a day-trip to Embu, where in their five-year plan (2024-2029), the Salesians intend to restructure the school with a new hostel facility for the technical school students and to improve the facility for the CBC-Senior Secondary School (with TVET and Agriculture tracks).

Additionally, Mr. Jan met with the management of Don Bosco Development Outreach Network (DBDON) and the team.

On the final day of his stay in Kenya, Mr. Jan, accompanied by Fr. Sahaya Selvam, the Executive Director of DBDON, walked 16 kms from Don Bosco Upper Hill to DBYES in Karen.
