Misean Cara Green Innovation Project has been successfully implemented in Don Bosco Makuyu with 14 farmers introduced to the use of green energy using locally available materials (cow dung) and the use of the bio product (bio-slurry) as organic/green fertilizer.
On 20th September 2024, the final training and commissioning of the fixed dome biogas unit was done. In attendance were Don Bosco Development Outreach Network (DBDON), Africa Bioenergy Program Limited, Don Bosco Training Centre Makuyu students and Misean Cara Green Innovation Project beneficiaries.
During this training, the project received farmers from the neighboring community who after witnessing the benefits of biogas and bio-slurry use wanted to be part of promoting the use of green energy and fostering sustainable agriculture. The farmers want to be part of the green energy shift that has significant benefits to the environment and food production.
According to one farmer, the use of firewood contributes significantly to global warming, and the current rising costs of LPG are unsustainable. The farmers also pointed out that they wish to employ circular agriculture techniques by ensuring maximum by-product utilization within their farms, which biogas units offer.
With such interest from the farmers, the implementation of the Misean Cara Green Innovation Project in Makuyu is positively impacting the larger community by empowering farmers to take charge of their environment. This is a clear indication that the farmers in Makuyu are ready to positively contribute to SGD 13 on Climate Action and SDG 15 on Life on Land.
