Don Bosco Occupational Standards Workshop 2025
From 7th to 12th September 2025, Don Bosco institutions across Kenya gathered with government agencies, industry experts, and partners for a landmark workshop to revise and align occupational standards for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
The week began at Don Bosco with prayer, the national anthem, and inspiring words from Rev. Fr. Sahaya G. Selvam, SDB, who reminded all present that technical education is not only about employment, but also about dignity, transformation, and hope for the young. His message set the tone for a workshop rooted in mission and service.
A Journey of Collaboration
Over five days, participants engaged deeply in reviewing standards across multiple trades—construction, automotive, welding, fashion, agriculture, and more. The process was participatory and consultative, drawing wisdom from trainers, government representatives, and industry stakeholders.
What emerged was not only technical documents, but also a renewed spirit of collaboration. Each discussion echoed the Don Bosco mission: to form young people who are competent, responsible, and committed to building a better society.
Outcomes that Matter
By the closing day, the workshop had delivered more than just updated occupational standards:
-
For students: clearer pathways to acquire skills that are relevant, competitive, and aligned with both national and East African labour market needs.
-
For teachers and trainers: updated reference documents that empower them to teach with clarity, confidence, and consistency.
-
For Don Bosco institutions: strengthened capacity to stand as beacons of excellence in skills training and holistic youth formation.
A Shared Mission for the Youth
The closing moments were filled with gratitude as participants reflected on the significance of their collective effort. As one voice, the Don Bosco family reaffirmed its commitment to empowering young people through education and training that shapes not only hands and minds, but also hearts.
This workshop is a testament to what happens when faith, expertise, and service come together. It is a step forward in ensuring that Don Bosco TVETs in Kenya continue to respond to the needs of the time—faithful to the past, relevant to the present, and hopeful for the future.
We thank every participant, every partner, and every institution that contributed to this journey of renewal. Together, we are writing a new chapter for youth empowerment in Kenya.
