DBDON Empowering Youth Through Partnership
On 30th September and 1st October 2025, the Don Bosco centres in Embu and Makuyu joyfully welcomed Ms. Hughlene Fortune, Desk Officer at Misereor. Accompanied by Mrs. Irene Waweru, Senior Programme Officer at DBDON, Ms. Fortune had the opportunity to experience firsthand the life, energy, and dreams of our young people. Irene, with her warm guidance, took her around the institutions, ensuring she felt the heartbeat of Don Bosco’s mission alive in every classroom, workshop, and playground.
At Don Bosco Makuyu, they were received by the Principal, Fr. James Njoroge, who personally guided them through the workshops alongside the enthusiastic students. The visit was filled with gratitude, joy, and inspiring encounters. Fr. James expressed heartfelt appreciation for the training equipment made possible through Misereor’s support, tools that empower students not only to learn but to stand tall with dignity and confidence as they prepare for their future. His words reminded us that every gift of equipment is a seed of hope sown into young lives.
We are reminded of the wisdom of Fr. Selvam, who often says: “Education is not about filling the mind, but about igniting the flame of life.” Indeed, Ms. Fortune’s visit shows that when hearts, hands, and resources come together, transformation takes root. The story of Embu and Makuyu is one of growth, resilience, and opportunity, and through partners like Misereor, our young people are learning to see the world not as a limitation but as a horizon full of possibilities.
