Misean Cara Green Innovation Project

Don Bosco Development and Outreach Network (DBDON) is advancing sustainable energy solutions at Don Bosco Makuyu, a technical institute and parish spanning over 20 kilometres. Through a project funded by Misean Cara, DBDON is introducing biogas as an alternative cooking energy source and promoting the use of bio-slurry as a natural fertilizer.

Operating under the theme

Increased Access to Green Energy & Energy Saving Measures,

this initiative aims to empower youth with practical knowledge of green energy and support farmers with eco-friendly biogas infrastructure. The biogas systems not only help in managing animal waste but also produce renewable energy and valuable natural fertilizer.

Misean Cara, developing integral ecology.

As part of this project, new farmers were trained on 31st July 2024 at the farm of a previous project beneficiary. They learnt about the operation and utilization of biogas units that will soon be installed in their households. From 5th to 13th August 2024, a group of 57 youth, including students from the Don Bosco Makuyu Plumbing Department, received hands-on training on the installation, operation and troubleshooting of both floating drum and fixed dome biogas units.

This initiative equips the youth with essential skills for securing green jobs, while the adoption of biogas technology is expected to reduce reliance on fossil fuels like charcoal and firewood. Additionally, the use of bio-slurry as fertilizer will promote organic farming practices and enhance farm productivity thus contributing to food security.
