Food relief & food security

Some of the Northern Districts of Kenya are faced with famine especially among the pastoralist communities, largely contributed by poor infrastructure, government planning, life-style of the population, and unpredictable climatic conditions. Activities that DBDON engages in include:

Climate crises

In 2024, Kenya experienced more-than-usual rainfall which caused flooding in many of our school compounds. DBDON responded briskly and aptly to the situation. Through emergency funding from Misean Cara (Ireland), we supported the schools in slums of Nairobi to provide uniform and text books for the select number of learners.

In Don Bosco Embu, which lost some arable land to water during the flood, thanks to the support from Don Bosco Mission, Bonn, we are able to construct a simple drainage system and groundwater storage system.

Missiones Salesianas of Madrid has supported Don Bosco Boystown to improve its drainage system. Work is in progress.
