Digital Education

ProFuturo

The ProFuturo digital education programme of Telefonica Fundación, through partnership with the Don Bosco Development Outreach Network (DBDON), offers pupils a quality digital education tailored to the local educational curriculum. The model seeks to transform the educational experience of teachers and students, and enhance the development of the 21st century skills needed to face the challenges of today’s world. The joint project also aims to engage the community on the importance of providing quality digital education for children.

In Kenya, ProFuturo has presence in three regions: Nairobi, Machakos and Kitui. DBDON is implementing the ProFuturo program in two regions across Kenya, covering 37 schools and serving 11,319 children. These schools are equipped with IT infrastructure aimed at integrating the use of technology in classroom lessons.

A total of 3,170 tablets, 88 laptops, 88 projectors, and routers have been distributed to the schools. Additionally, 436 teaching staff have undergone professional development and digital training sessions as Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) to support students using these devices. This initiative addresses key factors that contribute to the quality of education, such as: teacher’s professional development, educational assistance, technical support, digital solutions, a monitoring and evaluation system, and a knowledge exchange community.

ProFuturo continues to narrow the education gap in Kenya by enhancing the quality of education for thousands of children through technology, in Nairobi and Machakos.
