Inspired by the invitation of Pope Francis in his letter, Laudato Si, the Salesians of Don Bosco adopt an approach of Integral Ecology to respond to the current climate crisis and the care of environment. At DBDON, we have:

Green clubs:

Aim to facilitate ecological education and foster ecological conversion by creating awareness among young people about the interrelatedness of ecology and the human impact on the environment. This ecological literacy encourages individuals to use Earth's resources responsibly, particularly energy in; Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Principle. The clubs also engage in community-based activities such as planting trees and garbage collection.

Green TVET:

This project aims to create broad awareness among Salesian and Lay Staff, TVET Students, SMEs, Public Sector, and the general public on technical skills that could be used in areas such as: Solar energy harnessing, Water Management especially rain-water harvesting, Wastewater Management, Biogas, and Waste Management, including e-waste.

Efficient energy management:

We coordinate a comprehensive plan to the harness alternative sources of energy in all our communities, especially solar, biogas, biodigesters, etc. We dream to go off the grid for electricity in all our 12 institutions in Kenya.

Sustainable agriculture:

We run several agricultural initiatives that are environmentally friendly. Take For instance, our “Enhanced Youth Employment Avocado and Macadamia Growing Project.” This seven-year project started in the year 2020 in two locations: Nzaikoni parish in Machakos county and Kabazi in Nakuru county. Funded by Don Bosco Jugendhilfe Weltweit, Switzerland, the project is meant to boost the financial status of the youth and their families. It creates self-employment among the young people.
