Korr dispensary

Korr is a village in the Kaisut Desert, in northern Kenya. It is part of Marsabit County which borders Ethiopia and Moyale. The population of Korr, the Rendille and Samburu, is (semi) nomadic pastoralists. To these people, the Catholic Mission is the life-line for food, education, and health-care besides being nourished in faith.

For close to 40 years, the Salesians of Don Bosco have been providing services here. The health centre provides several services to the local communities like treatment of common diseases and immunization. In cooperation with World Vision a nutrition program is implemented. One of the activities is supplementary feeding of severely malnourished children.

Currently supported by Don Bosco Jungend hilfe weltweit - Switzerland and Misean Cara, the dispensary aims to address the healthcare needs of the region comprehensively.

Afya Jumuishi

The project funded by Misean Cara is running in the neighbourhoods of Korr, Makuyu, and Nzaikoni Salesian Communities through the dispensaries.

It offers improved maternal, neonatal, and child health care through the outpatient services. In Korr and Makuyu there have been interventions to better prevent, manage, and promote people’s health challenges such as hygiene and malnutrition training of community health workers, and provision of fortified porridge flour. The funding for the next phase (from July 2024 to June 2027) has been now approved.
