  • Job Responsibility

    Working under DBDON, the ideal Green Specialist will ordinarily report to the DBDON Coordinator, and when necessary to the Executive Director. More details on his/her duties and responsibilities are as stated below:

    1.         Establishing a Green Mobile Awareness Team made of the Green Specialist, the driver and any other resource person (if applicable).

    2.       Ensuring the establishment of the Green Clubs in each Salesian TVET school in Kenya

    3.       Ensuring the appointment of one motivated staff from each TVET school as the person spearheading the Green Club (Green Facilitator).

    4.       Providing broad knowledge regarding green resources and best practices as Green Mobile Awareness Team.

    5.       Travelling to each Salesian TVET Center in order to create awareness in one specific topic at a time (For each round trip one topic will be tackled). The topics are waste management, water management, Biogas, and Solar.

    6.       Providing information to all Salesian TVET Centers in the timeframe of 5 days in each school.

    7.       Liaising with the school leadership to invite the public and private partners as well as the communities around the area during Green Mobile Awareness Activities.

    8.       Liaising with the Green Facilitators for Green Clubs to plan their activities during the Green Mobile Awareness activities time with regard to the specific topic in order to create a good momentum.

    9.       Ensuring that all established Green Clubs execute the same activities at the sametime in order to create momentum which can be displayed through Green Alliance and other channels of communication.

    10.     Making 2 round trips per year to each Salesian TVET Center in order to create awareness.

    11.       Working on Green Topics to execute training as well as motivating and coaching the Green Clubs.

    12.     Contributing to establishing a Green Guide (after one year of activities implementation) as a combined exercise.

    13.     Reviewing training modules and curricula (in order to make them greener where applicable and possible).

    14.     Organizing local awareness campaigns throughout the year, but especially on international Green Day such as World Environmental Day or Waangari Maathai Day and etc).

    15.     Initiating activities (small) within and around the TVET center compound (clean up, the establishment of a tree nursery and compost site, etc.

    16.     Networking with organizations dealing with the protection of the environment.

    17.     Getting updates on critical environmental issues eg Biogas, Water management, waste management, and solar.

    18.     Analysing the costs and benefits of various training programs, as well as their impacts on the ecosystems.

    19.     Analysing environmental problems faced by the center and developing the appropriate solution.

    20.   Studying how environmental factors of training programs can impact human health.

    21.     Advising the centers to be environmentally compliant with government regulations to ensure that the air is clean, safe disposal of waste materials, safe water to drink, and no hazardous materials are on people’s way.

    22.   Reporting on all activities conducted (financial and narratives).

    Executing any other duties that will be assigned.

  • Educational Requirement

    The minimum requirements for the ideal Intern are as follows:

    ·      A University Degree from a reputable university in Natural Resource Management/Environmental Conservation and Natural Resource Management/Environmental Sciences or its equivalent.

    ·      Knowledge of project management.

    ·      Poses Computer skills.

    ·      Team player.

    ·      Excellent report-writing skills.

    ·      Good interpersonal and negotiation skills.

    ·      Ability to work in diverse environments under minimum supervision.

    ·      Must be willing to commit their time for an entire period of 12 months.


  • Experience Requirement

    The minimum requirements for the ideal Intern are as follows:

    ·      A University Degree from a reputable university in Natural Resource Management/Environmental Conservation and Natural Resource Management/Environmental Sciences or its equivalent.

    ·      Knowledge of project management.

    ·      Poses Computer skills.

    ·      Team player.

    ·      Excellent report-writing skills.

    ·      Good interpersonal and negotiation skills.

    ·      Ability to work in diverse environments under minimum supervision.

    ·      Must be willing to commit their time for an entire period of 12 months.
