Don Bosco Makuyu

Don Bosco Makuyu was established in 1988 and occupies 35-acre farm. The land hosts Don Bosco Technical School, Don Bosco Primary School and Don Bosco Parish. The main aim was to respond to the spiritual needs of the local community at Makuyu. However due to the unacceptably high poverty levels prevailing in the area, (which around the time of independence was originally a sisal plantation), the Salesians set themselves the task of addressing the need to tackle this problem through offering education. Thus in 1993, Don Bosco Makuyu Vocational Training centre was established. Since then, Don Bosco Makuyu vocational Training Centre has been providing technical training to the youth, both boys and girls in order to equip them with skills, as a way of improving their livelihood. Among the student population, there are the marginalized youth with no/limited family support due to poverty and also those being rehabilitated from the streets. More so Don Bosco Primary school was established in 1995 and at that time, it opened its doors with only 20 students. Today, the school has an average of 400 pupils at any given time. It is among the most preferred primary school in the area due to the holistic approach in molding the children. With a vast piece of land, Don Bosco Makuyu has been utilizing the land through the following activities; • Animal husbandry – cattle, pig rearing, rabbit keeping and poultry rearing • Bee keeping • Farming – Horticultural farming (Cabbages, other kinds of vegetables, tomatoes, water melon), maize farming, mangoes farming etc
