Emergency Response & Food Relief


These are activities aimed at improving the livelihood of people in disaster areas, drought. DBDON has in the past been involved in providing emergency aid to disaster prone areas especially in Marsabit, Korr, Lodwar, Kakuma and Nzaikoni

a) Emergency response
Activities:
– Responding to drought situations in the areas of Marsabit, Korr, Lodwar, Kakuma and Nzaikoni
– Disaster relief e.g Mpeketoni attack
– Distributing food items and non food items
– Distributing medicine to dispensaries


b) Food Relief & Food Security
Improving access to food and nutritional uptake for the pastoral nomadic communities
Food Relief & Food Security Activities include:
– Agro and fish farming to alleviate hunger and poverty amongst the pastoral nomadic communities
– Water harvesting practices at Kakuma, Lodwar, Marsabit, Korr and Nzaikoni
– Drip/Sprinkler irrigation technology to help small-scale farmers to achieve water conservation at Kakuma, Lodwar, Marsabit and Korr
– Kitchen gardens hosted by households
– Creating awareness to the beneficiaries regarding gaining vital skills and other benefits to sustain their indigenous and acquired technical knowledge in sustaining food security and nutrition
